Project Schedule

Purpose

Provide a combined view of the deliverables, resources, costs, dependencies and activities necessary to complete each phase of the Project.

Provide a baseline to measure and monitor the Project’s performance during each phase.

Provide evidence that the Project is been implemented in accordance with Project Management Procedure – Project Control

Derivation and Source Requirements

The source requirements for this schedule are the Estimates, Deliverable Breakdown Structure and Resource Groups.

The previous schedule will be updated using the Resource Reports, communication with the resources and progress meetings.

Composition

The schedule will be represented either as a dependency diagram (Pert chart) or as a Gantt chart.

As a minimum both the dependency diagram and Gantt chart will clearly identify:

·       All the activities necessary to complete each phase

·       The planned start date and planned completion date for each activity

·       Progress and completed activities

·       Milestones and identify whether they are complete

In addition to the general requirements above a dependency diagram will show the logical dependency between each task and milestone.

In addition to the general requirements, above, the Gantt chart will also be able to show a graphical representation of activities against time.

When required the Schedule should be able to easily provide the following views:

·       Late activities – all activities that have not been completed or are unlikely to be completed by their baselined completion date.

·       Critical activities

·       Float for each activity

·       Milestones – baselined, completed and planned

·       Baseline and current activities.

·       Completed activities.

The schedule will contain all the information necessary to support schedule management requirements

Quality Criteria

Are all the activities necessary to complete deliverables identified in the Deliverable Breakdown Structure?

Do all the activities have the appropriate number of resources assigned?

Does the schedule support the estimate – do the costs?

Does the schedule align with the Resource Profile?

Does the schedule align and support the Work Breakdown Structure?

Has the critical path been identified?

Is the dependencies (logic) correct and have these dependencies been reviewed and agreed by the Project Team?

Does the schedule support the requirements defined by the Cardinal Point Specification?

Does the schedule clearly identify all the appropriate risk mitigations?

Is the schedule achievable with the resources available?

Is the schedule credible – can it be achieved?

Does the schedule align with BIS and the Resource Reports?

Quality method and skills

The schedule will be reviewed and agreed prior to the schedule being baselined.  This check will include a review of the dependencies and constraints and compared to the Estimate, PBS and DBS and Project’s requirements (as defined by the CPS)

Each month the schedule will be reviewed and updated using costs to complete and scheduled completion dates in the Resource Report.  Any significant deviations will be reviewed by the Project Manager and if necessary discussed at the Progress Meetings.
